My Fellow Educators,
As we approach the holiday break, it’s time to focus on YOU. Today or tomorrow might be your last day before the break, and it’s the perfect opportunity to set boundaries that protect your peace and well-being.
Let’s be real—you can’t always rely on your organization to respect your boundaries. That’s why it’s so important to set and honor them yourself. To help you disconnect and recharge, here are three simple steps:
Use today to set your calendar and plan for after the break.
Jot down any lingering tasks, block time for post-break priorities, and organize your plans so you can step away with peace of mind. Your future self will thank you!Send a notification that you’ll be disconnected from work.
Set an auto-responder email and let colleagues know you’re off until you return. Boundaries matter, and communicating them reinforces your commitment to rest and recharge.Delete your work email from your phone.
Outlook, Gmail, Slack—take them off your phone. You deserve time to be present with yourself, your loved ones, and the things that bring you joy. Work can wait.
Educators, you give so much to others every day. This is your time to give back to yourself. Take the break you’ve earned, and care for yourself as well as you care for everyone else.
With gratitude,
Willie
This is great information! As an educator myself, I struggle with disconnecting sometimes (i.e. I keep my work email on my phone even when I'm off work.)
